Manual therapy is mostly the process of building rapport with the body. Learning how to better listen or dialogue with body tissue.
Our bodies have been present in every experience we have ever had. Wether that may have been a physical, mental or emotional experience, our bodies have stored some information about each experience. So any idea, or emotion we have ever felt has had some impact on the body tissues. And tissues have their own memory. Sometimes remembering things our mind might even forget.
And in the same way that the body is programmed to remember and store our experiences, our joy, our fears, or trauma, it is also designed to metabolize, release, and transform this stored information the moment it is offered the appropriate environment or support.
The body knows the best path to healing, and it is willing to get us there, so long as it is given the appropriate chance.
The aim of mindful touch is to remove the obstacles that might have been created in our system, so that we can better support the body in releasing chronic tension and pain, leading to self-correction and healing.
The role, and presence, of a craniosacral therapist is largely supportive rather than directive in the course of a session. We listen to the body, offer input and recieve feedback. We facilitate and support its need for support through gentle, mindful contact so that the recipient can experience increased levels of relaxation, creating the appropriate opportunity for the body to release tension that migth have accumulated both in the musculoskeletal level as well as the menatl and emotional level.
Our calling in the service of healing is to learn how to better listen. How to be receptive to the information and to follow, rather than direct or impose what we might think would be correct or effective relying on our mental assecement of the body.
And this is exactly the therapist’s role. Creating the right conditions and support, so that the body can feel safe enough to let go of old patterns or stress so that it can guide us to healing.
Allow yourselves to be connected to the wisdom of your own body. Learn to trust your body’s innate ability to self-regulate and heal. It is at this point that transformation and healing can take place, and the body can finally let go of long held tenstion and fatigue.
Health is our natural state.
