Craniosacral Therapy – Alternative or Complementary Approach?

Is Craniosacral Therapy an alternative or complementary approach to treatment?

The short answer is yes to both questions. But why is it so?

An approach can be considered as an alternative practice when it is chosen as an alternative to other methods or therapies.

Craniosacral Therapy offers tools that can help restore and resolve both musculoskeletal problems and, very often, issues that arise from how each of us stores stress and anxiety in our body. So sometimes it can be selected as an alternative approach to more traditional practices of manual therapy.

Using contact and mindful touch, we are able to release tension and restrictions stored in the body’s tissues (fascia) and thus support the body’s inherent ability to restore, rebalance and heal itself.

Any approach that helps and complements the process of restoring an imbalance in the body can be complementary.

Every therapeutic approach has potential strengths but also limitations. Therefore, it can be helpful and supportive for a body (individual) to choose a combination of different approaches, methods, or techniques that can bring about a more satisfactory or comprehensive result in restoring good health according to that indiviadual’s needs at a specific moment in time.

One of the important benefits of Craniosacral Therapy is that it approaches the body (and the individual) on multiple levels and in its entirety, recognizing that structure is just as important as the mindfield or the emotional substance of a person.

It is a safe, respectful practice of manual therapy and can work greatly in combination with other modalities, but also can offer great benefits as a standalone practice.

Tune in with your body and choose the ways, the practices, the methods or people that can support your journey to great health.
